As the wedding season dies down, we haven’t given our cameras time to collect dust. As photographers, we think its really important to be in front of the camera too. Personally, I much prefer being behind the camera, but I think its a really good exercise to understand how my clients might feel as I’m photographing them. The camera lens can be really intimidating, especially if you’re new to big professional DSLR cameras and huge lenses. Being in front of the camera allows us to be more empathetic towards our clients. Its really hard not to nitpick at the way you look, whether you think your face is at an unflattering angle or an arm looks a little flabby. Here are some tips to be comfortable in front of the camera and take the best pictures!
1. Get your hair and makeup professionally done and wear outfits that you LOVE. When you look good, you feel confident and it’ll really show in your pictures.
2. Realize that everybody will be nervous towards the beginning of their photo session, but don’t be discouraged! I always add 30 minutes to my sessions for free as warm-up time! After that, I assure that you will have loosened up and will be having fun!
3. Keep moving! Our faces and bodies look different with just a slight change in angle. Moving not only ensures that I can capture all the different facets or your face, its also more natural to capture! The best photos are photos taken in between poses because my subjects of moving naturally. Try looking at the camera, looking away, or looking at your partner for easy, fool proof ways to change facial angles!
4. Have fun! Its not everyday that you get to have professional pictures done. Enjoy the moment!
